About

Welcome to Feminine Actif!  My name is Renee Harper-Vacek and I am the moderator of this blog.  Feel free to read and comment, but I warn you!  I am a progressive feminist and will not engage with arguments or hate speech.  If you don’t agree with me, I accept that.  Give me good sound reasoning and I will listen.  But give me the same old sound bites and hatefulness, I will shut you down.

So, all of that being said, let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I am a woman who has realized her own power and worth later in life.  I lived the old life of submission and being under Christian Patriarchal rule.  Don’t get me wrong!  I have absolutely nothing against Christianity – I do not like the hypocrisy that seems to pervade most sects.  I believe very strongly that Jesus love women and honored them.  Nothing is written that would tell me otherwise.  No, it was Paul that instituted the church we see now – that of women being in submission to oppression and disrespect.

I have been married to my best friend, partner, lover, and supporter (a feminist himself) for 39 years.  I have two amazing daughters, a step-grandson, a grandson, and another grandchild on the way.  I have been independent for many years because I happen to have a husband that pushed me to independence even though that is not how I was raised.  We raised our daughters to be independent and to expect the very best of their partners – respect, honor, and value.

I am saddened by how our country is going.  No, not from the Progressives and Liberals – I am one!  But by the right-wing conservative movement, specifically the Tea Party.  While they cry about the Constitution, they continually make laws and propose bills that violate the Constitution.  Absolute Hypocrisy.  From where I stand, their desire to “take our country back to the days of the founding fathers” is scary.  Those days were entrenched in slavery, slave trading, no rights for anyone unless they were white, male, and of the correct religion.  I do NOT want to go back to those days.  And for those of you who do?  Take another look at the history.

I am determined to be a voice that is raised in protest – a voice the cries in the very darkness that is falling over our country every time we elect another Tea Party member.

This is FemininActif!  The Active feminist!  That is who I am and that is my mission!
